Join us in West Bloomfield to celebrate and learn from legal scholar and author of Attack from Within, Barb McQuade, as she presents her newest book, The Fix: Saving America from the Corruption of a Mob-Style Government.
Barbara McQuade is a professor from practice at the University of Michigan Law School, her alma mater, where she teaches courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, national security, and data privacy. She is also a legal analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, and a co-host of the podcast #SistersInLaw. From 2010 to 2017, McQuade served as U.S Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. Ms. McQuade was appointed by President Barack Obama, and was the first woman to serve in her position. Earlier in her career, she worked as a sports writer and copy editor, a judicial law clerk, an associate in private practice, and an assistant U.S. attorney. She and her husband have four children and live in Ann Arbor.
Marissa Pollick, J.D., is a civil rights attorney and Title IX expert consultant. From 2004-24, she served on the faculty at the University of Michigan, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Sports Law and Ethics, Sport and Public Policy, and Race and Cultural Issues in Sport. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A., History, with High Distinction, 1978) and the University of Michigan Law School (J.D., 1981).
As an undergraduate at Michigan, Marissa was a 4-year letter winner and 2-time co-captain of the Women’s Tennis Team and was among the first women in Michigan history to be awarded a varsity “Block M” and athletic scholarship. As a lawyer and advocate, she was later instrumental in eliminating century-old gender restrictions on varsity club membership at Michigan and was elected the “M” Club’s first woman President in 1999-2000.
Marissa was among the initial inductees in the University of Michigan M-Women Academic/Athletic Hall of Honor. In 2002, she was the first woman athlete inducted into the State of Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. She has lectured widely on the topics of sex discrimination in sport, Title IX athletic compliance, sexual harassment and assault under Title IX, and served as lead counsel in Title IX litigation on behalf of women athletes, coaches, and administrators. Marissa is also the author of an acclaimed college textbook, Introduction to Legal and Ethical Issues in Sport, Cognella Academic Publishing (2022).
